Why a range on the page becomes one figure on the call
A range is what a job costs across a city of very different doors. Three things come up on the call, and together they turn the range into one figure.
What is on the door now
A 1910s Professorville mortise set, an Eichler slider with a hook latch and a builder-grade deadbolt in a campus rental are three different openings. The lock that is there decides whether it is picked, decoded or, rarely, drilled, and that is the first thing talked through.
What goes on the door
Rekeying what is there costs less than a new deadbolt, and a grade 1 deadbolt costs more than a grade 2. The grade is named on the call, before it is fitted. Original hardware is kept and rekeyed wherever the lock allows it.
The hour
Evenings from 8pm carry $55 inside the figure, and the hours after midnight carry $90. You hear the total, not a surcharge, and weekends and holidays run at daytime rates.
What is never added
No mileage to Barron Park or the hills, no fee for a side gate or a second door, no line for a second attempt, and drilling never costs more than picking would have. If the plan changes at the door, it changes with your yes, at the same figure.
FAQ
What people ask about the bill
What does the figure on the call include, and what could move it?+
The $89 service call, the labor, the parts fitted and any evening or overnight hour, as one figure said on the call. A side gate, a long driveway, a garage level or a building lobby does not change it. The only thing that adds to it is a second job you ask for after the technician arrives, such as rekeying the back door once the front door has been opened. That is quoted as its own figure and started only when you say yes.
Is it more after 8pm, on a weekend or on a holiday?+
Weekends and holidays are charged at daytime figures. Arrival between 8pm and midnight adds $55, and between midnight and 7am adds $90. Both are already inside the figure said on the call. A house lockout that would be $129 during the day is said as $184 in the evening and $219 overnight, and that is the figure on the receipt.
